More about African Angler

A Lake Nasser small boat safari provides the opportunity to experience the Sahara Desert and the rich ecosystem, wildlife, and nomadic people of a unique desert lake. Also, remarkable fresh water fishing; anglers have the chance of catching the biggest fresh water fish of their lives.
Lake Nasser is situated in the middle of the largest and driest desert on our planet. The lake is scattered with islands and the shoreline is a variety of desert landscapes, hilly and rugged, or flat and sandy with clean freshwater beaches. The Aswan High Dam was built in the 1960's and, the resulting lake flooded over 6,200 sq. km. of the Nile Valley in southern Egypt. The fish populations of the original river system were presented with a huge lake to live in and have thrived in their new habitat, especially the Tilapia and their predators, Nile perch, Tiger fish, big Vundu and Bagrus catfish.
The lake supports an impressive variety of wildlife and is an important staging point for migrant and over-wintering birds. In many areas there are crocodiles and monitor lizards also Dorcas gazelle, jackals, desert fox, inhabit the shoreline and islands. Transient peasant fishermen fish the lake using old style fishing methods in simple wooden boats. The residents are Bedouin herdsmen who graze their flocks on the sparse vegetation growing on the edge of the Lake. There are also several important Nubian archaeological sites the most notable are the magnificent Temples at Abu Simbel.
There is a lot to see and do, in many ways it’s like visiting a game park where you also have a lot of fun catching and releasing big fish, going for walks in a beautiful desert environment, seeing spectacular bird life and enjoy the experience of a safari waited on ‘hand & foot’ by an experienced team of Nubian safari staff and guides.
A small boat safari is as close to the real meaning of the word safari as you are likely to find. On an African safari 4x4 vehicles are used for travelling, while support trucks carrying the equipment and safari staff go on ahead to set up camps. Our safaris are the same except we use ‘live aboard’ boats supported by well-appointed mother ships instead of land vehicles. Days are spent exploring this remarkable desert lake in your private ‘live aboard’ boat then at lunch time and in the evening you meet up with the mother ship where meals and drinks are enjoyed in comfortable social surroundings.
We offer a range of options from day trips to overnight small boat safaris which can last from 1 night & 2 days upward. Or join one of our world famous fishing safaris, targeting Nile perch, Tiger fish and the huge Vundu catfish. Most anglers who come for the first time will catch the largest fresh water fish of their life and have an angling adventure they will never forget.
